Richard L. "Dick" Vanek

Richard L. “Dick” Vanek, age 65, of Fremont, NE, died Sunday, February 5, 2012 at The Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha.
He was born February 1, 1947 in Wahoo, NE to Richard and Wilma (Svoboda) Vanek. He graduated from Prague High School in 1965 and then attended Peru State College in Peru, NE and John F. Kennedy College in Wahoo, NE. He served in the U.S. Army June 17, 1969 to January 21, 1972 in Fayetteville, NC. He moved to Fremont in 1972 and worked for Hormel for 32 years.
Dick married Lorraine Novak May 16, 1970 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Fremont.
He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Fremont, the Fremont Anglers, and V.F.W. Post #254 in Prague.
Survivors include: wife, Lorraine; sons – Richard Vanek, Robert and wife Amy Vanek and Roger and wife Jamie Vanek, all of Fremont, NE and Randy and wife Jamie Vanek of Gillette, WY; brothers – Ron and wife Jeanne Vanek and Terry Vanek, all of Prague, NE; sister – Carol and husband Dave Sousek of Prague, NE; brother-in-law – Mike Masek of Columbus, NE; and 5 grandchildren –Carlie, Tanner, Zachary, Jacob and Carter.
He was preceded in death by: parents; and sister – Karen Masek.
The funeral will be 10:00 A.M., Thursday, February 9, 2012 at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont. The Rev. Tom Shaw will officiate. Visitation will be 3-8 P.M. Wednesday with family receiving friends 6-8 P.M. at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont. Burial will be in St. John’s Catholic Cemetery in Prague, NE with military honors conducted by members of V.F.W. Post #254 of Prague.
