Dorothy Rose Stangel, age 85, of Fremont, NE, died Sunday, April 22, 2012 at Nye Pointe in Fremont.
Dorothy was born July 26, 1925, in Columbus, NE to Phillip and Rose (Gass) Smith. Dorothy was an only child and grew up in Columbus, graduating from Columbus High School in 1943. She worked for her uncles in the Gass Haney Funeral Home, and then for the Department of Labor in Columbus, NE. After moving to Fremont in 1965, she worked for CF Industries, retiring in 1993.
She married Wilfred J. “Casey” Stangel on October 23, 1965 in Dodge, NE. They lived in Fremont. Wilfred died in 1998. Dorothy was also preceded in death by her parents.
Survivors include many nieces and nephews and their families. Dorothy was always close to these relatives which were her family.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church for nearly 50 years, an office volunteer and a member of Mary Circle.
Dorothy had been a member of Business and Professional Women and Daughters of Union Veterans.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, May 1, 2012 at the First United Methodist Church, 815 North Broad Street, Fremont, NE 68025. The Rev. Greg Hall will officiate. Burial will be at Ft. McPherson National Cemetery in Maxwell, NE.
